Luther James Hammons was born May 21, 1925 in Cherokee County to George Washington and Della Mae (Adams) Hammons. He went to be with our Lord on Sunday, December 23, 2007. Luther was raised in the Etta community and attended school there. He received his GED and was an accomplished business man. He partnered with Richard Smith as the first electricians in Tahlequah. Luther was instrumental in writing the electric code for the city of Tahlequah. He served in the U. S. Army during WW II as a paratrooper in the 101st airborne. Luther married Ann Scott in 1947. He was a member of Etta General Baptist church, where he served as deacon, a Camp Robertson Trustee and was a lifetime member of the Tahlequah VFW, post 3707 having served as post commander.
